I strongly recommend reading High on a Mountain first. You will get a lot more out of Deep in the Valley if you do.Deep in the Valley is a sequel to High on a Mountain, and the second volume of a trilogy that includes, in order: High on a Mountain, Deep in the Valley, and Across the Wide River. It follows the life and history of the protagonist of High on a Mountain as he tries to forge a life in a new land, among a new people who speak a language that he does not understand, and do battle with some old demons from his former life that followed and confronted him. That's all I can say without giving the story away.
It's a story of love, loss, and new beginnings. It's a story of a person making his own fate, even when the Fates seemed to be conspiring against him, and refusing to let life and circumstances beat him down. It is definitely a "Never give up, never give in" story, and one well told.
I highly recommend Deep in the Valley and the entire trilogy.
An excellent story well told.

This book was very interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this reading. It was captivating and held your interest all the way through.
I loved this book and the adventures of this family. I read the first book ad couldn't wait to continue with the next! I feel the same way now! I really don't know if there is a third book or not but I'm going to search when I'm finished here!!!!!!
Again this is written with much sadness but a great story. It is hard to believe that it's fiction, it seems like it could be a true story. I am quite impressed.
Sorry, the story just didn't flow for me. The ancient Scottish names and some of the Indian names are repeated throughout, and should be, but to pronounce them in my mind each time made this more work than it needed to be. However, the historical details are surprising and fascinating.
I enjoyed this as much as the first book! Warning!! cliff hanger ending! Liked following the kids as they grew and had family's of their own. It kept me not only interested but looking forward to the end of the day so I could steal some time to read!! I like this author!
Interesting, compelling and informative. Gave a picture if how history evolves. As our everyday and uninteresting lives are pulled into a history that survives and deserves the telling of it.

Definitely read them in order. I am about 20 pages away from ending book 3, and I do not want it to end. Not your typical romance novel. Great storytelling. Believable characters, and the book is like I stepped into this world and I am watching it all unfold. Vivid imagery, and completely held my interest to where I want to sneak reading it at work 0
